About Taylors Arm
Taylors Arm is a village in Nambucca Shire in New South Wales, Australia. It is known for being the site of
"The Pub With No Beer" which was immortalised in song by Australian country singer Slim Dusty. Visitors have been flocking to the pub to enjoy country hospitality, a BBQ lunch and of course cold beers ever since it was immortalised in song by Slim Dusty in the 1950s. A must see visit!
When the main industries of cedar felling and dairying were at their peak the small village of Taylors Arm was thriving. It had a boarding house built around 1890, then five years later the pub was built. Taylors Arm Post Office opened on 1 August 1891. Other stores were built including a bakery, butchery and a grocery store. There were apparently seven schools from Thumb Creek to Macksville. Medlow Public School in Upper Taylors Arm is the last remaining school in the Taylors Arm area.
Taylors Arm and surrounding area is a very beautiful part of the Mid North Coast. Undulating landcsape, State Forest, National Parks and Thumb Creek to Taylors Arm river, consisting of some very inviting water holes in the hot summer. On entry into the quiet village, an avenue of Paulownia trees is set in the foreground with blue mountains in the background.
Taylors Arm is a part of Australian history
The village of Taylors Arm was born when a boarding house was built in 1890. Five years later the Cosmoplitan Hotel was built (now known as The Pub With No Beer – more about that later). Taylors Arm Post Office was opened on the 1st August 1891. Other stores were built including a bakery, butchery, blacksmiths, butter factory (which has been converted in to a residence, but is still readily recognisable on Greenhills road just before the Butter Factory bridge) and a grocery store. There were 7 schools from Thumb Creek to Macksville – not because there were more people, but because the children had to walk to school.
Taylors Arm's foremost attraction is The Pub With No Beer made famous by world renowned country singers Slim Dusty and Gordon Parsons.
